Japanese “Amazon” to Allow Payments with Crypto in Mobile App
Rakuten, the Japanese e-commerce giant, announced the introduction of cryptocurrency payments in its mobile application. Users will be able to use the new payment option in the middle of March 2019.
As follows from the company's report for 2018, the Japanese “Amazon” plans to incorporate cryptocurrency payments into its mobile app Rakuten Pay. The update of App is scheduled for March 18 this year. Thanks to it, customers will be able to pay for goods and services, not only with fiat money but also with cryptocurrency.
Last August, Rakuten bought Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Everybody’s Bitcoin in $2.4 million deal. As the company stated, “the role of cryptocurrency in e-commerce, offline retail sales, and P2P transfers should increase in the future.”
- According to the report, last year Rakuten received a net income of $1.3 billion and this is a 28.4% increase from 2017.
